Celebrations of patron saints are a feature of Valldemossa life.
On the 28th July each year, the ‘Festes de la Beata’ honours Santa Catalina Thomàs. On this day hundreds of people flock to the streets to take part in a large parade, where the statue of the Saint takes centre stage.
On the 24th August, a second large fiesta celebrates Sant Bartomeu, the patron saint of Valldemossa.
Festivities such as music events, sports and concerts all take place in the town during these festivities, including performances in the cloisters of the Real Cartuja.
Valldemossa is a popular area for those wishing to hike in the Sierra de Tramuntana mountains and there are many well-signed trails in the hills surrounding the village.
The tourist office provides maps and advice on routes, although it is a good idea to arrange a guided hike with a local adventure company in order to benefit from their expert knowledge of the area.
Cycling, horse riding and rock climbing are also popular activities. There are also several golf courses within a short driving distance.
For culture vultures, the annual Artdemossa Fair is an absolute must. This event, which takes place each July, comprises an evening of art, performances, exhibitions and concerts.
In August, Valldemossa hosts the Chopin Music Festival, which provides an opportunity to listen to a variety of international artists playing the music of the famous composer.
